Day Book: 2/20/17

Outside my window... it's 57F/13.8C outside at 7:40 a.m., I just opened the windows.  It's a little foggy. There is a cardinal at my feeder but I can't take a picture through the window screen and I don't want to scare it away by going on the patio... the neighborhood is quiet although I can hear some distant traffic on the highway.

I am thinking... that today won't be Domestic Monday since everybody is home!

I am thankful for... my family being home :)

From the learning rooms... not sure what is going on with the kids this week as we didn't discuss it last night.  They both worked on their schoolwork throughout the weekend. My daughter said she had a lot of studying to do.  She's on hold with her apartment quest in Gainesville for now, although I don't remember why? But she's handling it and my ex is going to be her guarantor, as he has been with her older brothers.

From the kitchen... I did manage to do most of the dishes last night as dinner was cooking.  And I did write a menu for the week yesterday, yay! It should be smooth sailing as long as I keep on top of the dirty dishes every night.

I am wearing... my PJs. It's a pink floral Vera Wang number that I got on clearance at Kohl's and with Kohl's cash last year and it's really comfy.

I am creating... a French blog for my family :)  I need to upload this past week's pictures and caption them in French some time today.

I am going... on a walk with Greg as soon as he's up and we've had breakfast. We're not sure where we're going but probably a local trail.

I am reading... I'm stalled on the "John Le CarrĂ© biography" and after reading some reviews where they lament that the 2nd part of the book is a detailed account of all his arguments with his publishers I'm thinking that I'm done with it. The minutiae of the biography is insane.  I'll probably read a book by John Le CarrĂ© next, entitled "A Delicate Truth".

I am hoping... that my brother and his GF are able to purchase the house they're going to visit this afternoon!  It's a chalet in Provence that's currently an Airbnb property. It would be their weekend getaway and eventually their retirement home, as they are paying off their apartment in Marseille next month. It's exciting for them!

I am hearing... birds calling throughout the neighborhood and the cats eating their breakfast.

Around the house... I'm the only one up (well, with the cats!), the kids and Greg are still asleep.

One of my favorite things... Being the only one up in the mornings :)

A few plans for the rest of the week... it's a quiet week.  I'll be taking my son to his annual check-up, going grocery shopping/running errands, and Greg and I will go visit another state park.  That's about all that's planned. I'm going to text Middle Son later on to see if we can meet for lunch this week or weekend.

Here's the picture I'm sharing... this is the chalet that my brother and his GF are hoping to purchase.

Have a good week!

  2. I'm glad you are taking a holiday from being domestic, today, because I've sort of decided to do the same, myself! Makes me feel less guilty about it, knowing you are taking the day off, too. :) That chalet looks lovely and very secluded with all those trees around! It'll make a nice weekend get-away place. Hope you are having a fine day, Nathalie.

    1. I don't know about you but I didn't do ANY chores today save for cooking dinner. So tomorrow I'll have all my Domestic Monday chores to accomplish plus the regular daily ones AND I need to try to meet more February goals! I don't know if I'll be very successful!
I hope you had a great day off.

  3. Hi Nathalie,
When/what was the theme for the team challenge. It's the first one I've missed since joining. I was in the hospital a few days last week and not on the computer at all. Dang. I missed it.

    1. Are you OK, Mia?! I'm sorry you missed the Team Challenge. They seem to announce them on Fridays and the challenges start on the following Monday. Here is their blog post that announced it. http://blog.swagbucks.com/2017/02/introducing-the-chocolate-dipped-team-challenge.html

    2. Monday, I felt really bad at work, went home and waited for my husband and we went to the ER. My heart rate was 209. They thought I was going to have a heart attack or stroke, but I didn't. So, they admitted me. I had to also have a blood transfusion. I have atrial fibrillation, severe anemia and hyperthyroidism. I've lost like 30 pounds in two month. Which is great. Hope I can keep it off. I'm on 3 meds and see my primary doctor today and a heart doctor tomorrow. But, I'm back at work for the most part. I was in the hospital for 3 days. I hate hospitals. I haven't been in one since I had my daughter 26 years ago. LOL.

    3. Oh my goodness! I'm sorry to hear that and glad you're OK now. I'm guessing you lost the weight because you've been sick. Not the way one would rather lose the weight but if it's going to help with your other health problems, great! I hate hospitals too. Take care of yourself, Mia!

  4. Your bother's chalet looks like a good place to vacation. Hope he gets it so you can visit.

    1. I hope they get it and get to enjoy it a lot. I'm not quite sure how far away it is from Marseille, where they currently live, and I haven't heard from my brother yet following their visit. The owner works in Hong Kong so with the time difference, it's challenging to get answers very fast. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them :) Not sure if they'd keep it as an Airbnb property or not, though.

  5. What a gorgeous place!

Both Dave and I worked on Monday. Sigh. Well, at least I like my job.

    1. Oh that stinks! What other holiday might you guys get instead of Presidents' Day, then?

    2. Well, it's not too bad. We get the "big" holidays (you know, the usual) and then the Friday after Thanksgiving and Good Friday. Nothing compared to what people in Europe get (my brothers and sisters just shake their heads), but much better than a lot of places.

I remember my first full-time job in the U.S. - five days vacation, no sick days. When the kids got sick, I had to take a vacation day... God, how awful.
